Practice and Lessons advise

It is a good idea to be ready for your weekly lessons by playing everyday. Have a plan for your practice time. Talk to your teacher about what you should be doing if you are unsure. Here is my list:

  1. Get the violin and bow out. Tighten bow and rosin.

  2. Make sure you have a space for your practice ideally with a stand if you are using music. An armless chair or stool is also useful.

  3. drink a glass of water before practice.

  4. Start with playing open strings. Make sure your violin is in tune. Be mindful of your bowhold and violin hold.

  5. Play some scales. If you don't know any scales yet, play what you know.

  6. Play old tunes, pieces you already know. Listen to your intonation and tone.

  7. Work on your new piece. Choose a measure or two that you have trouble with and try to play them perfectly 10 times in a row.

  8. End your practice playing something you really like to play.
